Title: The Misplaced Obsession with Impeaching DP Gachagua Amidst Pressing National Issues
Kenya's political landscape continues to be dominated by partisan interests, score-settling, and a dangerous trend of prioritizing personal vendettas over national interests. This obsession has led to an ill-conceived and misguided push to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, while other more critical matters have been ignored or brushed aside. It's ironic and deeply frustrating that some politicians would rather engage in politicking around the DP's office than addressing the real issues that directly impact the daily lives of Kenyans.
For instance, the failure to impeach Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi over the fake fertilizer scandal is a glaring example of selective political action. Moreover, the controversy surrounding the Adan Deal over Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been shrouded in silence, with many politicians opting to sweep it under the rug. Even more concerning is the shift in the Department of Health aimed at replacing the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), which reeks of potential corruption, but has been met with little to no scrutiny. Furthermore, key legislative bills, like the Coffee Bill and the Tea Bill, have received minimal attention, despite being critical to the lives of millions of Kenyans.
While these issues remain unresolved, a significant number of politicians seem obsessed with the impeachment of the Deputy President, a motion that is not only unnecessary but is also a clear distraction from the more urgent matters of national concern.
The Mithika Linturi Fertilizer Scandal: A Forgotten Saga?
In 2023, Kenya was embroiled in a fertilizer scandal that involved Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi. The fake fertilizer scandal had disastrous consequences for farmers across the country, leaving them with substandard products that impacted food production. The outrage that followed led to calls for Linturi’s resignation and impeachment. Yet, despite the gravity of the issue, the political class allowed the matter to quietly fade away. Where was the same energy to impeach Linturi as is being directed at DP Gachagua?
Why wasn't there a concerted effort to hold the Agriculture CS accountable, given the widespread consequences of his actions? If there was ever a need for an impeachment, it was in this case—where real livelihoods were at stake, and Kenyans were suffering due to government negligence and corruption. The hypocrisy of those now calling for Gachagua's impeachment is evident, as they have conveniently overlooked Linturi's grave mismanagement of a critical sector.
The Adan Deal and JKIA: An Erosion of National Assets?
The deal involving the leasing or potential sale of JKIA to a foreign entity remains a scandal that should have been the focus of national debate. The airport is one of Kenya's most strategic national assets, and any decision affecting its ownership or operation should be made with utmost transparency. However, the deal has been enveloped in secrecy, with key politicians refusing to speak out against it.
This silence is particularly deafening given the importance of JKIA to the country’s economy, tourism, and international standing. Why are politicians who claim to fight for the people not questioning this deal? Why is there more interest in settling political scores with the Deputy President than in safeguarding the country's assets? It's clear that the political elite are more interested in protecting their own interests than those of the public.
The NHIF Replacement: Another Potential Scam?
The proposed reforms in the Department of Health, which seek to replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), also deserve scrutiny. NHIF has been plagued by inefficiencies and corruption for years, but the solution lies in fixing the system, not dismantling it. The new healthcare insurance proposals seem to have more to do with creating another avenue for graft than with genuinely improving healthcare access for Kenyans.
The silence from the political class on this issue is concerning. If this new system is indeed a scam, it will have disastrous consequences for millions of Kenyans who rely on NHIF for healthcare coverage. But instead of focusing on this pressing issue, the political
As Nelson Having puts it our legislative arm of government needs to do something as well concerning more touching issues of our nation we should not just hear them go viral when it comes to settling scores but also on matters os national importance we want to see them talk when money is delayed from reaching counties. We want them to say when money is mismanaged at counties we want them to say when money is mismanaged at NG CDF we want them to say when rogue deals like Adam tries to scam us at JKIA.
We want to hear the talk when Kenyans are about to be conned through SHIF we mean let there be genuine oversight not as otherwise seems to be the case.
However we can't throw a child with a birth water some are on track like Hon Okiya Omutata,Hon Sifuna Edwin , Hon Onyonga , Hon Cherargei, Hon Olekina in the senate and some in the NA including Hon Majimbo Kalasinga, Hon Wamboka among others who have stood tall and kenyans have seen them concerned about very sensitive matters that affect our nation
