Allegations of impeaching the DP Gachagua ought to be properly interrogated.seemingly it's a game of settling scores
The recent allegations levied against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua by a faction of politicians intent on impeaching him are not only shallow but also hypocritical. It appears that these leaders are pushing forward with shoddy claims that do not hold water, all while conveniently forgetting that many of them have engaged in similar actions or even worse. This witch hunt reeks of a political agenda that seeks to weaken the Deputy President for reasons that go beyond the surface accusations. Let us dissect these allegations and evaluate their merit – or rather, the lack thereof.
1. Talking About "The People of the Mountain"
One of the allegations being used against Rigathi Gachagua is that he constantly speaks about the "people of the mountain" – a reference to the Kikuyu community from the Mount Kenya region. Critics claim that his frequent mention of his community is divisive and goes against national unity. But let’s ask ourselves, what is wrong with being proud of where one comes from?
Every politician, from every part of Kenya, represents their community. During campaigns, it was a common narrative for politicians to speak of what they would bring to the table for their people. They promised development, jobs, and services tailored to the needs of their constituents. Why, then, is Gachagua being criticized for advocating for the people of Mount Kenya? Isn't he simply doing what every other politician does – speaking for the region that elected him?
Let us not forget that during the campaign season, politicians fiercely debated what they would offer their regions. What exactly were they "bringing to the table"? And from where? Why is it suddenly wrong when Gachagua speaks about his people?
The truth is, these are flimsy accusations. Politicians should not be punished for having pride in their roots. Every leader, whether from Nyanza, Coast, Rift Valley, or Central, has a duty to stand up for their region’s interests. Gachagua’s commitment to his people should be viewed as a testament to his loyalty, not as a point of contention.
2. Mismanagement of Funds Allegations
Perhaps the most laughable of all the allegations is the claim that Gachagua has mismanaged funds. Mismanagement of public resources is a serious issue in Kenya, no doubt, but are these allegations against him grounded in reality, or are they part of a broader strategy to undermine his leadership?
Kenya has a long history of corruption scandals – from Anglo Leasing to the Goldenberg scandal, from the Grand Regency Hotel saga to the Tokyo Embassy fiasco. There was also the Eurobond scandal, and more recently, the debacle surrounding JKIA. Yet, none of these colossal financial blunders were linked to Gachagua.
The same politicians pointing fingers at him today were present during many of these scandals. Where were they then? Why didn't they raise their voices in outrage when billions were siphoned off in various fraudulent schemes? To single out Gachagua on the issue of mismanagement of funds is not only selective outrage but also pure hypocrisy.
The current political class has its fair share of skeletons in the closet when it comes to corruption. To use this as a weapon against Gachagua is not only disingenuous but also an insult to Kenyans who are tired of politicians conveniently scapegoating individuals while ignoring their own pasts.
3. Claims of Funding Gen Z Protests
One of the more recent and bizarre accusations is that Gachagua funded the "Gen Z" protests, a youth-led movement driven by frustration with the government’s failure to deliver on key promises. This claim is not only shallow but also unrealistic. The youths who took to the streets were motivated by clear grievances, from high unemployment to poor service delivery.
To suggest that Gachagua was behind these protests is an attempt to distort the truth. The young people of Kenya have been suffering from systemic issues for years. Their agitation was not a result of Gachagua’s actions, but a natural response to the disservice they have been subjected to by successive governments.
It is a fact that youths are becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of opportunities, and they are expressing their dissatisfaction. Pinning this on Gachagua is a lazy attempt to divert attention from the real issues affecting the country’s youth.
The Real Agenda
What is clear from these baseless allegations is that there is a political agenda at play. It is widely speculated that some factions within the Kenya Kwanza government never wanted Gachagua in the first place. They may have used him to ascend to power, only to now plot his downfall once that objective has been achieved.
This is not a new strategy in Kenyan politics. Many leaders have been used as stepping stones, only to be cast aside when they are no longer needed. However, the politicians from Mount Kenya who are now ganging up against Gachagua must recognize that this move would be both politically immature and self-defeating.
Gachagua represents a large section of the Mount Kenya electorate. Abandoning him would be a betrayal of their own people. Political maturity requires unity and a focus on the bigger picture, not petty squabbles and backstabbing.
The allegations against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are not only weak but also politically motivated. From claims of divisiveness to accusations of corruption and youth agitation, none of these hold water when scrutinized. Instead, what is becoming evident is a plot to undermine Gachagua for ulterior motives.
It is time for Kenyan leaders to rise above these shoddy tactics and focus on delivering for the people. Gachagua’s commitment to his community and his stance on national issues should not be punished; instead, they should be a foundation for dialogue and collaboration in government. Leaders must remember that political betrayal only serves to hurt the very people they claim to represent.
As they say when a man walks naked it is the kin's men who feel ashamed politicians from the mountain should be the last to throw a stone to their fellow kin.
In chinua Achebe's book things fall apart , the time okwonkwo took part in the killing of a man he stayed with that's when things fell stay on him.
Gachagua is not angel he has a lot of weakness but justify the reason why he must suffer alone.....? Or it's the law of power in use that whoever helps you to ascend in power should be delt with for you to rule well...... I don't know
